Check Yourself Before You Wreck Someone Else – Feedback With Equity Across Differences
Overview
Often times leaders avoid giving developmental feedback for fear of saying something wrong. In law firms, providing equity in feedback is critical for cultivating an equitable and inclusive workplace. When law firm partners fail to provide developmental feedback across differences such as gender, race, or socio-economic background, it fosters a climate of inequalities that substantially impair an associate's career growth. Without direct and actionable feedback, associates from underrepresented communities will face difficulties in identifying areas for improvement. This lack of supportive supervision not only stunts associates’ professional growth but also undermines their confidence and sense of belonging.
